A Tangem Wallet user has taken to forums to voice their distress after Changelly froze a $20,000 USDT swap. Despite fulfilling Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements, escalating demands for unrelated financial documents have intensified worries about the platform's practices.
In early February 2026, the user initiated a standard swap of 20,000 USDT from TRC20 to BEP20 through Tangem Wallet, which collaborates with Changelly for these transactions. Moments after starting the swap, Changelly flagged it and requested KYC verification. The user complied, providing all necessary documents, only to face additional requests related to eight historical transactions dating back over a year.
"I complied with everything they asked for, but they just keep adding to the list," the user expressed.
Describing the situation as a "fishing expedition," the user pointed out that Changelly's approach lacks clear resolution timelines. Their commitment to "Enhanced Due Diligence" has led to scrutiny of transactions with no relevance to the current swap.
Attempts to resolve the issue through Tangem Wallet yielded little assistance. They maintained that all providers integrated into their app are trustworthy, implying the user should manage the situation directly with Changelly.
Faced with ongoing delays, the frustrated user filed a legal demand for either the return of funds or a detailed explanation regarding the hold. Changelly responded with a generic statement: "Unfortunately, we canβt provide you with a timeframe nor predict when your case is going to be resolved."
Discussions on user boards have highlighted mixed sentiments:
"Scam," one commenter bluntly stated, reflecting growing mistrust in Changelly's operations.
Others expressed concerns about liquidity, suggesting, "You'll only get that back when the market pumps again. My suspicion is they do not have enough liquidity."
The scrutiny is increasing as community members call for better regulatory oversight. The frequency of complaints points to significant issues regarding Changellyβs KYC policies and overall transparency.
Users have raised concerns about the platform's handling of funds within their custody:
π Funds have been locked since February 5, 2026; response communication remains minimal.
π Legal demands are on the rise, with many users similarly affected.
β οΈ A growing number of users urge caution when using centralized exchanges like Changelly.
"DO NOT USE CHANGELLY, especially through wallet integrations. They can and will freeze your funds with no warning," another user cautioned.
As these events unfold, pressure mounts for Changelly to reform their KYC practices and expedite case resolutions.
